Landscape guide training in Ehingen on historical building blocks
Discover historical building blocks!
On 18 November 2022, the Geopark office held a landscape guide training course. The host for the more than twenty landscape and tourist guides from five Alb counties was the Ehingen Museum, a Geopark info centre. Iris Bohnacker (Geopark geologist) gave a short introduction to rock science and the typical historical building blocks in Swabian towns.
On a discovery tour through Ehingen's town centre, the group discovered, for example, Gauinger travertine with wonderfully preserved fossil reed stems. This striking natural stone was quarried only a few kilometres from Ehingen. Or the rough beige-coloured Stubensandstein, which was quarried in Schönbuch, for example, and was also used in Ulm Cathedral.
Tip: With a flyer available at Ehingen Museum , you can discover the rocks in Ehingen on your own.
