A meteorite impact and life afterwards

The area around Steinheim was formed by the impact of a meteorite 15 million years ago. Today, the Steinheim Basin and its heritage is famous worldwide. The Meteor Crater Museum and the geological nature trail along the crater rim recount the catastrophe of that time and its consequences for flora and fauna.

This visible natural event is an important and exciting piece of the puzzle in the geological mosaic of the Swabian Alb.
