Near Gutenberg, we can marvel at a bizarre natural wonder. Many sinter terraces and basins have formed in the riverbed of the river Weisse Lauter. These rare phenomena are built when lime precipitates from foaming water. It is a continuous process. We can literally watch the sinter stairs growing.
Sinter structures are very fragile and should not be walked on. If they are destroyed, it takes many years for them to regenerate.
