Schauhöhlentreffen an der Charlottenhöhle – Einblicke, Austausch und Besucherfeedback
On October 25, representatives from twelve show caves in the Swabian Alb came together for the annual meeting of the show cave network, which this time took place at the Charlottenhöhle near Giengen an der Brenz. Organized by the Swabian Alb Geopark, the event serves as a valuable platform for networking and cooperation. This network also gave rise to the popular “speleologist's map for children”, which introduces families to the world of cave exploration in a playful way.
A key topic was a recent visitor survey carried out by students on the “Sustainable Regional Management” (NAREM) bachelor's degree course at Rottenburg University of Applied Sciences. The survey covered topics such as cleanliness, pricing and booking options, including the option to book guided tours online, and provided positive visitor feedback overall. For the show cave operators, who often ensure the maintenance and operation of the caves on a voluntary basis, this is a welcome confirmation of their commitment.
At the same time, challenges were also addressed, in particular the problem that guided tours booked online are often not taken up.
This development brings with it organizational difficulties, as resources intended for this purpose remain unused. The participants discussed possible solutions to support the valuable work of cave operators and further optimize the visitor service.
Another highlight of the meeting was the scientific work of the research teams who continue to study the Charlottenhöhle and gain new insights into its history. With patience and precision, they are contributing to the documentation and exploration of this impressive show cave.
The event once again underlined the importance of joint exchange for the sustainable development and protection of the unique natural wonders of the Swabian Alb.
