Geoparks in Germany
There are two geopark organizations in Germany. The German UNESCO Global Geoparks have joined together in the "Forum of German UNESCO Global Geoparks". They work closely together with the German UNESCO Commission. They include Geopark Bergstraße-Odenwald, Geopark Harz-BraunschweigerLand-Ostfalen, Geopark Swabian Alb, Geopark TERRA.vita, Geopark Vulkaneifel, Geopark Muskauer Faltenbogen, Thüringen Inselsberg-DreiGleichen and Geopark Ries.
Regular meetings serve the exchange of ideas and project development. Currently, the Forum Geoparks are working on a joint concept for education for sustainable development (ESD). They are supported by the Alfred-Töpfer-Academy.
The "Association of German Geoparks (AdG)" represents the interests of the 18 National Geoparks, only eight of them have the UNESCO title. It acts as an advisory body and exchange forum between the geoparks as well as a platform for joint communication, advertising and marketing measures. In organizational and scientific terms, the AdG is affiliated with the "Fachsektion Geotope und GeoParks der Deutschen Geologischen Gesellschaft - Geologischen Vereinigung e.V. (DGGV)".
