Roof wells
The lack of surface water in the Swabian Alb meant that for a long time rainwater was collected and stored in roof wells. The water collected in this way was often contaminated and led to a high infant mortality rate. Then, in 1870, the Alb water supply was established in Teuringshofen and the modern water supply came into being, which led to the fact that today we receive Alb-wide water from the tap. A monument was built in Blaubeuren in memory of the builders and founders of the Alb water supply.
